Submission to Consultation on Hate Speech

AkiDwA's submission on reform of hate speech laws in Ireland. In 2019, the Irish government announced a review of its approach to hate crime in Ireland. As part of this, the Department of Justice and Equality held a public consultation to review the current legislation on hate speech - the Incitement to Hatred Act 1989. AkiDwA submitted our recommendations for reform of the legislation based on what we have learned from our member's experiences with discrimination and hate-motivated attacks.

Submission to United Nations Committee on the Elimination of all forms of Racial Discrimination (CERD)

AkiDwA submission to the United National Committee on the Elimination of all forms f Racial Discrimination, on the examination of Ireland on its combined 5th to 9th reports. Submitted November 2019 for the 100th session of the Committee in Geneva (25th November - 10th December). In this alternative report AkiDwA outlines 26 key recommendations for the Irish State to take action to vindicate the rights of migrant women under UNCERD. The recommendations cover gender-based violence, employment, health, Direct Provision and international protection and People of African Descent.
