AkiDwA Health Fair to offer free health checks at St Agatha’s Hall, Dunne Street, Ballybough, Dublin 3
Ireland’s migrant women’s network AkiDwA has joined forces with Cairde to organise a Health Fair in Dublin City where free health checks and self-care treatments will be available to everyone on Friday September 13th from 10 am to 4 pm. As well as taking part in a gentle exercise session on the day, people who come to the health fair will be able to try healthy snacks and take advantage of treatments like manicures, eyebrow threading and Indian head massage. While both charities organising this event focus on helping migrants to access treatments and look after their health, the health fair is open to everyone. Visitors will be able to have allergy and blood pressure tests and to learn about the role of dental hygiene, acupuncture and reflexology in maintaining good health. People attending the fair will be able to access information and tips on how they can access specialist services for HIV and Hepatitis C, as well as drug and alcohol treatment programmes. Everyone who attends will benefit from advice on exercise, diet and maintaining a healthy weight. Mobile units from the Irish Heart Foundation and the Marie Keating Foundation will be at the fair to raise awareness of all types of cancer and heart disease common in Ireland. The Irish Heart Foundation nurse will be able to provide heart health information and free blood pressure and pulse checks.
